Porae are a species that is generally targetted when you first start spear fishing, as they are hard to spook and more curious than other species.
They are quite easily found in depths of 10-25 metres as well as along weed edges and the more sandy inshore areas. If you stir up the sand the porae will come in to see what is happening. If you back away for a while and descend again in a few minutes, you can normally see them picking at the sediment you have disrupted.
