At 500g the weight can be placed evenly throughout the vest. Using weight vests allows you to reduce the weight on your hips which will help with lower back pain. However weight vests are not recommended for the beginner diver because it is more difficult to remove compared to a typical quick release rubber belt which is a lot easier.
